Welcome to Emotemuse

What is Emotemuse Instant Online Products (IOP)?

Emotemuse IOP is a comprehensive library building every day of skill areas relating to aural, harmony and music history.  It contains explanations of concepts and exercises with a focus on aural qualities to develop the ear in conjunction with context.

Emotemuse Instant Online Products enables users to choose what skill areas they would like to build upon and access explanation and exercise pages instantly upon payment through Paypal.  All skills are taught from a relating devices to their sound to develop aural skills.

Methodology

The Emotemuse methodology is based around the principle of the primary effect of music: the effect on the emotions.  The Emotemuse Technique uses the principal that all sounds have an emotive impact on the body in some way, whether that is conscious of not.  The principle behind the Emotemuse technique is that students tap into their psyche to develop the ability to articulate that instinct in terms of competence in the skill areas listed below.

The advantages of Emotemuse:
The primary advantage of Emotemuse the approach is the "instinct factor". The focus on emotive as opposed to the technical (while covered) has proven success with both first-time non-musical users and tertiary level students alike. In other words, instinct comes first, and the outcome is being able to explain what is driving that instinct.

In cases of musical analysis (e.g., melodic and harmonic dictation) running commentaries are provided in regards to structural and other musical musical devices. This organic approach removes the need for study of "separate areas" of musical language.

Unlike other computer-based software Emotemuse:

  • tells the user WHY they have made an error, and demonstrates what that would sound like. This means for one exercise, around 10,000 pages are behind the scenes to ensure every possible mistake is accounted for.
  • skill areas culminate in real works for analysis rather than merely using generated exercises, so the user gains a sense of context and knowledge of the repertoire
  • live performances are used for works for study rather than midi files (piano reductions are favoured over midi substitutes for this reason).
